Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the planning and preparation competencies necessary for vocational teachers’ preparation of a skilled workforce that meets the demands of the Malaysian labor market. The domain and components of planning and preparation of Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching (Danielson, 2007) were used as the framework for this study. A Modified Delphi technique was used as the research method. The analysis identified 112 planning and preparation competencies that Malaysian teachers need to know and be able to do. Of these 112, there are 29 planning and preparation competencies in knowledge of content and pedagogy, 17 planning and preparation competencies in knowledge of students, 13 planning and preparation competencies in setting instructional outcome, 15 planning and preparation competencies in knowledge of resources, 21 planning and preparation competencies in designing coherent instruction, and 17 planning and preparation competencies in designing student assessments that Malaysian vocational teachers need to know and be able to do in order to prepare a skilled workforce that meets the demand of the Malaysian labor market.
