Many methods for endoscope calibration have been proposed. However, many of these techniques can be cumbersome or not yield positive results due to noise generated by the scope. This thesis presents an approach which covers the entire bronchoscope distortion calibration process. Our approach extends from generating bronchoscopic calibration video through the calibration process to yielding the calibration-parameter VDF file. The numerical calibration process is based on the camera calibration toolbox for MATLAB designed by Jean-Yves Bouguet. The second portion of the thesis deals with an area of endoscope calibration which is largely unknown, the effects of time and type of calibration images on the distortion parameters. Our method is utilized to analyze potential distortion parameter drift over a period months. Knowing the possible distortion variation will give insight into the need for periodical calibrations. As well as analyzing the data for drift, the effect of various calibration factors, such as illumination and number of calibration images, are investigated.
