Abstract:
Heterogenous systems consisting of processors of varying nature which complement each other’s deficiencies are rapidly eclipsing the homogeneous systems of past. The consumer and HPC market segments are now replete with such systems. This has spurred a flurry of research interest into heterogeneous architectures. But a lack of a robust simulation framework has limited research opportunities in this area. In this thesis, we describe the process of adopting and developing a simulation framework using the CPU and GPU models present within the gem5 simulator, demonstrate its functionality with some test results, discuss the current limitations of this system and present ideas to further enhance the framework.
