Abstract:
This thesis considers the solution of a unit commitment problem with electrochemical storage,
a consequence of using lithium-ion batteries. Traditional approaches of mixed-integer linear
programming or dynamic programming cannot accommodate the nonlinearity and nonconvexity
arising from the presence of such storage products. We consider the use of an alternate approach
that combines dynamic programming with approximate dynamic programming. Numerical results
are presented to examine the performance of such schemes.
