Abstract:
We provide a overview of the residual-based stabilized Finite-Element methods, with both historical and theoretical treatment. Four standard model problems have been selected to present these stabilization methods. In particular, the variational multi-scale (VMS) method has been discussed in details. As an application, we have introduced an incompressible fluid problem. A numerical scheme has been derived based on the VMS method, with demonstration of its numerical stability.
